Workshop Two-Week Status 2/4/10 – 2/15/19
Shop Two-Week Status 2/4/19- 2/15/19, includes Monthly Cleanup (2/13)
The list below summarizes the shop’s activity of the past two weeks. Let me know
if I’ve missed something or if a correction is needed…… Ron Fico
1. New Shop Policy and Guide (SP&G) was passed by the Board 2/3/19.
a. All shop users are required to read the SP&G. While at the shop, users
have been asked to read the SP&G “Highlights” page and to acknowledge
that they received a copy of the SP&G (paper copies supplied in the shop
to be borrowed and returned). A record is kept of who read the Highlights
page and who received a copy of the SP&G.
b. Shop users are required to wear safety eye wear in the shop at all times.
Must be marked Z87+.
c. Visitors must remain outside the shop with entry only allowed during cleanup
when all power tools are off, usually the last 15-minutes of a shift
d. Bain Staff/County Officials must be allowed to enter – all tools must be powered
off.
e. Sign posted on the front door (picture below)
2. Table Saw blade cleaned and swapped
Who: M. Covington
3. JET band saw blade replaced
Who: D. Sandruck
A 3/16″ 10 TPI wood cutting blade was installed to replace the high tooth count
(metal cutting blade). Two new blades were ordered and have arrived, placed
on the gray cabinet next to the front desk.
MONITORS: IF A BANDSAW BLADE BREAKS, PLEASE DO NOT THROW IT
OUT. WE HAVE ACCESS TO A WELDING SERVICE THAT CAN REPAIR
BLADES.
4. Replaced Performax 16-32 drum roll abrasive
Who: T. Castanguay, R. Fico
Abrasive roll showed wear and resin streaks. Abrasive roll was previously
replaced on 1/10/2019.
5. Chop-saw blade cleaned
Who: M. Covington
6. Delta/Rockwell Disk/Belt sander belt abrasive replaced
Who: M. Flecker
Belt broke during use. Belt was previously replaced on 1/7/2019.
7. Corner clamps repaired
Who: R. Fico
Corner clamps were repaired – tapped with 1/4″-20 tap to accept 1/4″-20 rods.
Stainless steel wingnuts were purchased for fastening. The clamps reside on
the top shelf of the gray cabinet next to the front desk. The capacity of the
clamps is about 1-foot without the extension rods and about 2-feet with the
extension rods.
8. Powermatic Bandsaw inner blade-guard adjusted
Who: R. Fico
The inner blade-guard was jammed against the bearing the sits behind the
blade (picture below), and was adjusted upward to free the bearing.
MONITORS: CHECK THAT WHEN THE GUARD IS ADJUSTED FULL
UPWARD, THE INNER GUARD IS NOT FORCED AGAINST THE BEARING.
9. Powermatic Bandsaw Fence Repair In-Progress
Who: R. Fico
Locking Plate broken. Removed in order to replace it. Repair to be delayed until
other parts can be ordered from the same source to reduce shipping charges per
piece.
10. Circuit 21 Outlet repaired.
Request for repair was submitted to the Bain Staff 1/22/2019 resulting in repair.
MONTHLY CLEANUP (CU) – 2/13/19
CU-1. Removed resin form bandsaw tires (lower and upper wheels) for both band
saws.
Who: G. Mason
CU-2. Organize abrasives stored in cardboard boxes under bench and in wooden
drawers. Wooden drawers moved to allow better access for seating at the
bench nearest the front desk.
Who: D. Forrester
CU-3. Cleaned inner and outer wall-mounted JET air filters.
Who: R. Steiner
CU-4. Cleaned central vac hopper.
Who: R. Steiner
CU-5. Cleaned one of the Rigid vacuum cleaner units (clogged filter)
Who: R. Steiner
CU-6. Installed locking casters on the Performax 16-32 drum sander.
Who G. Mason
The drum sander cart can now easily be moved. It has been placed near the
windows. This allows unobstructed access to the lockers at the front of the
room where the sander was previously positioned.
CU-7. Grizzly Planer cutters rotated (counter-clockwise)
Who: M. Fradkin
High ridges on planed wood have been observed. All cutters were rotated
to mitigate the problem. Two cutters were severely chipped and therefore
replaced. About three cutters were chipped on the side to be rotated to and
were therefore rotated to a fresh side.
CU-8. Front lockers cleaner and new shelving installed (picture below)
Who: R. Fico
