Workshop Monthly Status 2/19 – 3/15/19
This monthly status covers the period from Feb 19 – Mar 15.
Listed are maintenance items performed outside of the monthly
clean-up as well as the monthly clean-up.
Maintenance activities (outside of the monthly cleanup)
Contributors: M. Covington, R. Fico, M. Fradkin, F. Nastvogel
- Grizzly Planer cutters removed, cleaned and head under
cutters cleaned, 3/14/19
In the prior month, the cutters were rotated with some replaced in an
attempt to get rid of high ridges (i.e., striping) on planed wood. The ridges
persisted. We suspected uneven alignment of the cutters due to debris under
the cutters. The cutters were again removed and debris on the back of the
cutters as well as on the head behind the cutters were cleaned of all debris.
This solved the problem.
- Table Saw gears and shafts lubricated to aid elevation, 2/19/19
- JET band saw blade bent on one occasion and broken on another, 3/7/19
The 3/16″ 10 TPI wood cutting blade on the Jet bandsaw was bent due to
aggressive cutting. The blade was removed, straightened, inspected
(no stress breaks), remounted and tested. That same blade broke under
the same aggressive mis-use. The blade was replaced. - Chop-saw blade cart: additional shelf and rear panel installed, 2/25/19
- Corner clamp rods, 2/25/19
The clamps that reside on the top shelf of the gray cabinet have a
companion set of longer rods that were placed in the left most locker at
the front of the room.
- Toggle power switches mounted high on the Rigid vacuum
cleaners, 3/11/19
The switches were installed to allow easier access to power the vacuums.
- Small Belt sander (Collins Quality) vacuum adapter installed, 3/14/19
A vacuum adapter was installed that allows mounting a Rigid vacuum
cleaner hose directly to the small belt sander. - Power strip behind the chop saw is now mounted on the wall, 3/7/19
