Through workshops, educational opportunities, our well-equipped wood shop, monthly presentations and networking, and community outreach, we strive to cultivate creativity, craftsmanship, and camaraderie.

2025-04-05 April Monthly Meeting

On April 5th, the first Saturday, our monthly meeting will be in person at Bain Center (info link) and virtual using Zoom technology.

The demonstration for the meeting will be  “Overview of Six Finishing Techniques”, by Joel Laferriere.  Come and learn about Joel’s  finishing techniques that are applicable to a wide range of projects.

After building a project, have you ever been stymied by what finish to use?  The wide array of finishing options can make it difficult to choose the right one for a project.  Some finishes are attractive and easy to apply but may not offer the level of protection that a particular  project warrants.  Another finish might offer the durability needed but may add an undesirable color.  Joel Laferriere will share his wisdom after years of experience trying finishes and products of all types.  He will overview five finishing techniques-wax, oil, varnish, lacquer, and synthetics.  And then, Joel will take a deeper dive into shellac, a time-honored finishing method.
