What are the roles and their capabilities to view, create, edit, or delete items on the website?

Original WordPress roles are colored blue and linked to the WordPress.org website documentation. Some roles are custom to this site.  They are color coded red.  They have custom capabilities.

The roles and their capabilities are summarized below.

Summary of Roles

  • Super Admin – (not used on HCWG.org website) somebody with access to the site network administration features and all other features. See the Create a Network article.
  • Administrator (slug: ‘administrator’) – somebody who has access to all the administration features within a single site.
  • Guild Officer (slug: ‘guildofficer’) – same as Editor.  Content access control appropriate for guild officer duties.
  • Shop Coordinator (slug: ‘shopcoordinator’) – same as Guild Officer.  Content access control appropriate for guild officer and workshop duties.
  • Editor (slug: ‘editor’) – somebody who can publish and manage posts including the posts of other users.
  • Author  (slug: ‘author’)  – somebody who can publish and manage their own posts.
  • Shop Monitor (slug: ‘shopmonitor’) – same as contributor.  Content access control appropriate for shop monitor duties.
  • Active Member (renamed from Contributor, (slug: ‘contributor’) – somebody who can write and manage their own posts but cannot publish them.
  • Customer (slug: ‘customer’) – Read, Add, Change, and Delete content and access control that is appropriate for the Membership Store.
  • Inactive Member (renamed from Subscriberslug: ‘subscriber’) – no access.  Renamed from WP subscriber role.  Used to maintain an entry in the database for expired guild members as a way to preserve their information for reuse as necessary.
