Help Wanted: Keepsake Carving Repair
My late father was an amateur woodcarver and made me a small calf. When we had the earthquake, a picture fell off the wall, hit the calf, and broke its legs. I need advice on how best to repair it. It is made of walnut.
I was so distraught over the broken carving that I wrapped it up and put it away. When I looked at it today, I realized that both a foot and a horn had been broken. I do have the pieces, and it appears to be a clean break. I’ve attached a couple of photos.
If the calf looks strange to you, it is modeled from a photo in Biblical Archeology of a bronze calf found in Israel on a dig years ago.
I have Dad’s tools and small blocks of walnut and cherry that I would be happy to donate to the Guild if you think someone could use them.
I am in Bryant Woods, Wilde Lake. Phone is 410-730-1195.
Many thanks.

Gene,
Thank you for placing the note in the newsletter. I met with Scott Bleakney this afternoon, and my carving looks beautiful.
Woodworkers are a very special group.
