Free Wood – Little Leaf Linden To Be Harvested – Carvers and Pyros
A benefactor is harvesting a Little Leaf Linden tree in Howard County and has offered to donate a portion of the wood to Guild members. No date has been set. We are seeking your feedback by November 27th, Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so that we can inform the benefactor how much volume to consider for us.
A commercial tree service will be employed to down the tree and remove unwanted material from the historic site. Reserved cuttings will be further processed by the benefactor on our day of pickup.
The specimen is located in Ellicott City, Howard County.
What can you use Little Leaf Linden for?
The species is a hardwood, but at the soft end of the spectrum. It is most suitable for carvers and pryographers. The main stem is 38″ in diameter at the base, but is hollow at least 36 inches vertically.
A member who wishes to have the main trunk will have to provide truck and trailer sufficient to haul the log and will be solely responsible for any hidden metal in this older tree. The trunk section will be extremely heavy. For example, a single log, 30″ diameter at the narrow end, 38″ at the wider end, and ten feet long will weight between 2,200lbs and upward of 3,200lbs.
Branch sections and crotches are readily available and easy to handle.
Please by Wednesday, November 27th, if you are interested.
Thank you for reading.
