For Sale: H. Tubman HS Mulberry Burl After the Meeting Saturday
We have some nice Mulberry burls harvested from Harriet Tubman High School, Howard County, Maryland, last June/July 2019 by Howard County Public School System with Recreation and Parks assistance.
- More About Harriet Tubman High School
Last Friday Richard Brand and I spent the day cutting the burls out of the main trunk provided by the county. Thank you Richard for storing them on your property since last July.
Current members are invited to purchase these burls after the Guild monthly meeting this coming Saturday. Gene will remain in the parking lot for about an hour right after the meeting. Members may also preview in advance by visiting me at my home. Please use contact info below.
The cost for these burls will be very advantageous. Because the wood was provided by the county, I am seeking only nominal reimbursement for expenses, and equipment wear and tear; somewhere between $5 and $50 depending upon the piece.
These burls are ideal for live edge turnings, using the cutoffs in molds for turning pen blanks, stoppers and the like, or power carving. Their moisture content measured about 30% today, March 3rd. Bowl turners will want to turn them down to finish thickness (less than ¼”), sand to 220, place them with shavings in a paper grocery bag, and store in a cold dry place. Check the project once a month until dry. Some of the pieces are also spalted.
Special Note: At least one project must be donated back to Howard County Harriet Tubman High School, and Recreation and Parks; two projects in total. We want to provide you with first work piece choices for you projects. To compensate you for you work, I will match your donation work piece with a second one of equal size at no charge. If you are interested in participating, please contact Gene ASAP.
Members not logged in or not able to log in please use the form to contact Gene, who will respond to the number or email you provide in the form.[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”18″ gal_title=”H. Tubman HS Mulberry Project”]
