Howard County Woodworkers Guild
Our meeting for December 3, 2011.
Jeannie Ureno
The December demo will be by Jeannie Ureno. She will talk about how decorate your turned bowls and platters or anything else in wood using woodburning techniques. She has been doing this as well as paint decoration for a number of years.
Jeannie is currently a member of the Chesapeake Woodturners and in the March show at the Montpelier Mansion in Laurel she won Best in Show – Jeannie Ureno, Maple Platter with Pyrography & Dye, “Ivy Vine” ?A beautifully turned plate with a decorative border of etched leaves. The combination of the light tan wood (maple) surrounded with the finely etched and stained border makes for a very strong piece.
Bain Shop Rules: The shop is now open Mon. through Fri. from 9AM-noon for the use of HCWG members only. SNOW CLOSINGS, The policy is that if Howard County Schools are closed, the center and shop will be closed. If the schools are opening late, so will be center and shop! This restriction of HCWG Members only is due to insurance regulations. Additional individuals to serve as backup shop monitors are needed to cover days when the normal monitor is unable to be there due to vacation, etc. Only those on the shop monitor list maintained by the Bain Center will be allowed to open the shop. The shop monitor will wear a “Monitor Badge” while in the shop. He is the boss in the shop while he is on duty! Power equipment will not be operated when only one person is in the shop! If you don’t follow the rules you will be asked to leave. The new dust collection arrangement and ambient air filters are making the shop an almost dust free environment. Our lungs say: “Thank you”
Though we are always on the lookout for suggestions and volunteers, we do have demonstrators lined up for some of the future meetings:
