Welcome to the
Howard County Woodworkers Guild (HCWG)
The Guild is a collegial organization of like-minded and creative individuals, dedicated to sharing in the woodworking craft, nurturing newcomers, and giving back to our community.
Whether your interest is in turning, flatwork, carving, finishing, lumber, trees or camaraderie, or all the above, or you’re not sure; our Guild is for you. Come to a meeting or two and get acquainted.
2018-08-11 HCWG Annual Picnic 2018
The annual picnic was held as scheduled on Saturday, 11 August 2018, at new member Greg Knoll’s countryside residence in Clarksville.
A special thanks to Greg and Vanessa Knoll for hosting.
The festivities kicked off with a chain saw carving demonstration by Viv Sierzega-Rouse. Be sure to check the videos below.
Anna Ubeda, Steve Dunbar, and Sean Tracy were the grill masters. They prepared chicken breast, hot dogs, hamburgers, and bratwurst sausages. Side dishes and deserts provided by guild members and their families were a tasty compliment. For the third year George Adams was the chief provisioner.
Howard Eiserike and Cate Sullivan conducted the raffle. There were a number of popular items including a chain saw carving made onsite this morning by carver Viv Sierzega-Rouse.
Lisa Munzer conducted the peer-reviewed Show-n-Judge. The reduced number of entries was attributed to our picnic running concurrent to the county fair where Guild member entries warranted several First Prize awards and Best in Show recognition.
George Adams’ tomahawk throw was popular again this year. Many members tried their hand from the 16 foot line with varying success. Greg Knoll’s son may have found a new interest!
All of our Guild events are successful because of our volunteers. And no event is more reliant on volunters than our picnic. We want to extend a special thanks to all those named above, plus our set up and clean up crew. I think Greg will agree that we left his meadow in better shape than when we arrived.
Now take a look at our photos and videos below.
