Subject: Beads of Courage Woodturners – 2019 End of year review
To: Rich Ellery
Dear dedicated woodturners,
Happy holidays! Beads of Courage would like share an overview of the woodturner community’s generosity as we wind down to the end of 2019. We would also like to inform you of some changes that are happening as we move into 2020.
I would like to virtually introduce everyone to our Volunteer Coordinator, April Cleveland. Beginning in 2020, she will be your new contact concerning woodturning for Beads of Courage. I would like to personally thank all of the groups and individuals I have gotten to know over the years. I will remain with Beads of Courage but will be focusing my efforts on Beads of Courage programming. It has been my pleasure working with all of you and I leave you in the very capable hands of April!
We would also like to recognize those that have donated bowls this past year. It is wonderful to see where all of these donations are going to as well as the number of bowls that have been donated. The information below has been gathered from the gift-in-kind donation forms that have been submitted this past year.
Here’s a sneak peek of 2019:
1256 bowls were donated to 25 different hospitals as well as directly to Beads of Courage and our Beads in the Mail program.
29 different woodturning groups donated bowls (accounting for over 50 individuals!)
The estimated value of these donations surpasses $60,000!!!
A donation of this size accounts for THOUSANDS of hours of work…that’s a lot of turning!
The gift-in-kind form is a wonderful way to capture all of the great work people all over the country are doing in support of the organization. We know that we are missing information. If you have donated in 2019, please complete our gift-in-kind form.
Please also remember, if we do not receive the gift-in-kind form, we will not be aware of your contribution. Hospitals do not report back to Beads of Courage when you donate. We are so grateful for you so please let us know! All forms and information are available on our website.
Thank you to the following woodturning groups for your time, dedication, and generosity during 2019.

We cannot put into words how grateful we are to the woodturning community. Your amazing works of art are a wonderful compliment to the Beads of Courage program, allowing our members to have a safe and beautiful vessel to contain sometimes hundreds of beads that each represent a different moment of courage.
If you or your group is not represented here, we want to hear from you! We kindly ask you to do the following:
