Howard County Woodworkers Guild (HCWG)
The Guild is a collegial organization of like-minded and creative individuals, dedicated to sharing in the art of fine woodworking craft, nurturing newcomers, and giving back to our community.
Whether your interest is in turning, fine woodworking, carving, finishing, lumber, trees, or camaraderie, all of the above, or you’re not sure; our Guild is for you. Come to a meeting or two and get acquainted.
Our Guild does not buy or make anything for retail sale. We do not buy and sell used woodworking related items. We do provide a marketplace where buyers and sellers, or those seeking help, may post an ad for that purpose.
We offer with limited capacity educational opportunities provided by dedicated and skilled senior craftsmen and women (SME program & Classes). Our monthly meeting is highlighted by impressive show-n-tell reviews of finished projects, and a 60-90 minute skill presentation (Monthly Presentations Schedule).
Election 2023 – Last Call for Nominees
We need YOU. Please VOLUNTEER
Vice President and Treasurer positions are up for election this September, 2023. Both positions will be vacated so it is imperative for guild volunteers to step into these critical roles.
The only way a civic organization survives is through the personal efforts of volunteers. Over the past four years our Guild has enjoyed substantial benefits from an expanded group of dedicated volunteers. You’ve seen it, right? We livestream our meetings, the quality of presentations has improved, and we’re offering high quality training opportunities. These things don’t happen without a fully staff board of directors.
It is perplexing to me then to note that as of this writing, we have ZERO candidates for two of our four open elected positions for 2023, that of Vice President and Treasurer.
ZERO! What is going on? We have more than 180 renewed members for FY2023-2024. Are there TWO among you who WILL?
Maybe you are concerned about the extent of the commitment? Let me summarize, excluding participation as a member in monthly meetings and occasional activities for any member, as follows.
- The Vice President:
- Attends the monthly board meeting. Usually one hour, and occasionally ninety minutes.
- That’s it. Ninety extra minutes a month.
