I want to quickly remind everyone before we are in between Christmas and New Years, when things get really busy and time flies by… The January meeting will take place as scheduled on Saturday, 6 January at Bain Center. Please pay for your Steve Latta Seminar reservation by check to Manny or Joel at the meeting if you haven’t already. Make your check payable to HCWG in the amount of $40. Project: My first carved spoon! Post Demo
During the December 2017 Monthly Meeting where Don Nalezyty demonstrated hand carving (with an ax!) his favored wooden spoons, I was enthused and inspired to try my hand at the process. Despite my novice experience as a woodworker, I am pretty inventive and can handle an ax. Thusly armed and with ample enthusiasm I launched into converting recently felled cherry to the spoon of my dreams, and maybe my wife’s! I think you’ll agree by the looks of the chronology of photos shown below. You should give it a try. Greg Knoll – potential new member and now spoon carver!

You’ll want to check out Gerry’s demonstration and methods, even if you are not a turner. An interesting methodology to be sure. He may bring some pen blanks for sale too.
