Help Wanted: HoCo Recreation and Parks Sykesville Walnut
Some time in the next week by 10/14/2015,
Howard County Recreation and Parks Department is removing a large walnut, 36″ at the base, 50-60 feet tall, from a park area near the South Branch of the Patapsco River before Sykesville off route 32.
We are in need of someone with a truck & trailer or truck sufficient to haul 12,000 to 15,000 pounds from the site to Arnold Sewell’s Timberline Farms Sawmill nearby on Route 99 west of Route 32.
19 October Addendum:
The cutting will take place tomorrow, 20 October. I will pickup the crotches and make them available at the November Monthly Meeting.
Howard County Recreation and Parks will transport the logs to Arnold Sewell’s Timberline Farms Sawmill.
Non-members please us the Contact Us form to ask us to refer you to the ad owner.
Interested in free walnut crotches, check Gene’s post.
Update”
Arnold has elected not to retail from the HoCo walnut logs. This means that I will be funding the milling expenses for the logs, including Anchor sealing the ends, and picking up the crotches. Howard County wants some benefit back from the log donation.
Guild members will be able to purchase through me wet milled walnut lumber at a steep discount compared to retail. A price has not yet been set. Retail for dry 4/4 sanded two sides 8 inches wide is $9 – $12 per board foot.
When we know what our costs are, we will let you know what your share would be should you be interested in participating.
Hi Frank
That is a very good question.
Thus far Arnold has not bartered wood in exchange for his milling service. It is not our intent to make that offer either.
Participants in the opportunity will split the milling cost and get first choice based upon effort and expense invested.
Just wondering if the walnut will be given away after milling or will Sewell get to sell it for profit?
Jim
