Guild Picnic 2016 a Big Success
The Guild Picnic for 2016 was widely held to be a big success. The weather cooperated at 89F and while humid, the breeze made for comfortable sitting while in the shade. Then there was the pool. Some enjoyed a refreshing swim in the post-picnic after hour.
Gene Torrey, Sean Tracy and Jerry Simpson were the pit masters this year, standing in for Brian Graham who had a conflict and was not able to attend.
Manny Flecker ran the raffle. This year there was an active round of ticket sales, followed by a large crowd of anxious members awaiting nervously to see if their ticket was drawn. A big thanks to Manny and crew.
Lisa Munzer rains the show-n-judge. This year’s entries included Rick Munzer’s first place bird themed entarsia carving, Richard Winchester’s second place Nakashima-style bench and Joel LaFerriere’s 3D sculpture. Other entries included free form bandsaw box, turned bowls, laminated assembly turned bowl, and turned pen.
There was an unexpected surprise. Not only did George Adams take care of purchasing and delivering the picnic provisions, he also showed up with a tomahawk throwing station, which proved to be a very interesting and challenging test of dexterity. Thank you George for all your effort. You are a gift of human nature and a blessing to the guild membership.
A special thanks goes out to all those who prepared a side dish or desert. Thank you for your effort and for sharing your favorite recipes. There was so much great food.
After all these great things, the most prominent of all is the comaraderie. So often we are hustling through the monthly meeting, or focused on our project at the shop that we don’t have time to catch-up with our Guild friends.
Please take time to look though the photos from this year’s album pictured below.
Can’t wait for next year!!!
