An Introduction to Woodworking
Are you new to woodworking but not sure how to get started? We have designed a new course just for beginners with an aspiration to learn woodworking, but with very little to zero experience. We start at the beginning, and will cover the basics including what you need to know about working with wood, types of woodworking that might interest you, introduction to both hand tools and power tools, shop safety and best practices, and introduction to simple woodworking techniques. The course culminates with you developing initial skills and making a tool tote that you can proudly use and display.
The course consists of five sessions on Wednesdays from 3pm to 6pm in the Bain 50+ Center Wood Shop. There will be three classroom style meetings held 10/22, 10/29, and 11/5, and then a two session hands-on portion for your project. Note that due to space limitations, the hands-on work will be split into two groups; the first group will meet 11/12 & 11/19 and the second group will meet 12/3 and 12/10. When you register, please indicate your preference for either the first or second hands-on workshop to make your tool tote and we will try to accommodate you if possible.
We expect a good amount of interest in this course so register soon.
Please contact the instructor to discuss if this course is a good fit for you.
